日本町 Japan Town – Aug 27th
January 29, 2010Posted by on
On Aug 28 2009, me, my friends and as well as my little brother went to Japan Town in San Francisco for the first time in 3 years. I decided to plan a trip before the end of summer so that we can have fun and go with a bang. Being 3 years since the last time I went there, alot of things must have changed but no doubt Japan Town will still be great.
Me, being the leader as always, planned out the trip and we took a Bart (subway) to San Francisco then took a Muni straight to Japan Town.
The second you come off the Muni, you will see this Japanese supermarket in front of you. Great place to buy snacks. ^ ^
(The first time I went there 5+ years ago, the guy at the register tried to talk to me in Japanese. ^ ^;)
Come out of the supermarket and take several steps forward and you will see this. See that tower in the background? That’s where we need to go (it’s not far).
到着! (touchaku) Arrived! That’s the Peace Pagoda, and our resting/meeting place will be right under it.
Turn around when you’re under the tower and this is what you will see. Unfortunately, that truck is blocking the view of where the supermarket is.
To be honest, Japan Town isn’t much of a exciting place to go to without…that’s right, the Kintetsu Mall (does anyone know the kanji?). The existence of this mall is the very and only reason we came here.
It’s been 3 years so I thought that the place had changed quite a bit but only a store or 2 closed and got replaced.
This is the one of the newest shops here and the first time I have seen it.
When I walked inside I was amazed, finally I have a local shop that carries PVC figures, Figma and Nendoroids!
This is now my favorite store in the entire mall. It was that day that I bought my first Figma, Suzumiya Haruhi, from here. Figmas are $35, Nendoroids are$45. Think of the extra cost as instant shipping.
See anything you want on the store front?
Orz, no cameras….This store wasn’t that big of a deal for me before but….
Now they are a lower level and completely dedicated to manga. I am not much of a manga fan but was delighted that they had Japanese manga and bought a few. They also carried a bunch of magazines.
We are all hungry and wants lunch. Don’t remember if this was here 3 years ago. Decided to eat here and it was delicious! I ordered a gyu donburi. ^ ^
Looking very tasty….if only they weren’t wax…
There was also this thing on the lower level that I never saw before.
I forgot to read the sign so I don’t know what this is. Does anyone know?
This thing was made mostly, if not entirely, of wood. It had some amazing details.
We decided to walk around for a bit and found this supermarket at the end of the slope on the right of the mall.
Walked in just to take a look and saw this wall of trading figures.
See anything that interests you?
My little brother was especially interested in these. He ended up getting DiEnd and Faiz (not pictured).
Before we left, we just relaxed about under the Peace Pagoda and I took some photos of the sky meanwhile.
This trip was great and just what we needed before the summer ends. I planned to go again and I did in December, a few days before Christmas. The post on that trip is coming up.
Hope you enjoyed the little tour of Japan Town and if you live around the bay area, maybe we can meet up some time. Would be great to have more comrades! ^ ^
